Being located on the edge of the Simpson Desert, Ooraminna Homestead’s weather can vary from intensely hot days during the wet season, to frosty nights and clear, fresh days in the dry winter months.
March – May: The autumn months are regarded as a great time to visit, as the summer heat has normally subsided and after the rains the region is left green and refreshed – ideal for hiking in the MacDonnell Ranges.
June – August: Winter is the most popular time, thanks to the sunny daytime temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius. In these months rainfall is less likely, but the clear skies means you’ll need to be prepared for freezing temperatures at night and morning frosts.
September – November: This is wildflower season and a stunning time in Central Australia. Nights are still cool, but days are warming up for exploring.
December – February: The perfect time if you want to explore the region with fewer crowds and see the waterfalls flowing. In the low season, it’s common for days to be over 40 degrees Celsius and heavy storms to hit, adding to the dramatic beauty of the desert.
