Meet the colourful thorny devils and frill-necked lizards at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre or learn more about Australian marsupials at the Kangaroo Sanctuary. While the Frontier Camel Farm is where you can ride camels into the sunset, literally, for a quintessential desert experience.

Alice Springs Desert Park

At Alice Springs Desert Park, be captivated by the life and beauty of a distinctively Australian desert journey.

Just 10 minutes’ drive from Alice Springs, with the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges within view, the Desert Park is a celebration of unique desert habitats – Desert Rivers, Sand Country and Woodland. These habitats also connect visitors with the life, history and stories of the local Arrernte people, along with their deep respect for the plants and animals of the region.

Activities at the park include guided presentations, a free flying bird show and the opportunity to see endangered animals in the Nocturnal House.

Alice Springs School of the Air

Imagine going to school with classmates that are spread across 1.3 million square kilometres. Alice Springs School of the Air has offered educational services since 1951 and visitors are welcome to visit the world’s largest classroom.

What began as scratchy radio service that provided three lessons a week is now a lifeline to education that’s available online throughout the Outback and some of the world’s most remote places. When you take a tour of School of the Air, there’s the opportunity to view a teaching session and you might even see a live class taking place in one of the broadcasting studios.

Also not far from School of the Air is the historic Telegraph Station. Restored stone buildings display historic items from Alice Springs’ first European settlement. You can take a guided tour, stop for coffee at the cafe or even send a postcard from the original red postbox.
