Alice Springs Desert Park

At Alice Springs Desert Park, be captivated by the life and beauty of a distinctively Australian desert journey, with the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges within view.

Just 7 kilometres or a 10-minute drive from Alice Springs, the Desert Park is a celebration of unique desert habitats – Desert Rivers, Sand Country and Woodland. These habitats also connect visitors with the life, history and stories of the local Arrernte people, along with their deep respect for the plants and animals of the region.

Activities at the park include guided presentations, a free flying bird show in the Nature Theatre and the opportunity to see endangered animals in the Nocturnal House. A separate 45-minute evening tour is also available to step inside a large predator-proof enclosure and join an expert guide to spotlight endangered animals, including bilby, echidna and mala.

Desert Park is run by the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory within the Department of Tourism and Hospitality. We recommend allowing 3-4 hours for your day visit.

Opening hours:

• 7:30am to 6pm every day (closed on 25 December)
• Last entry is at 4:30pm
• Nocturnal House is open 9:00am to 5:30pm
• Thorny Devil Experience begins at 12:45pm in the Nocturnal House (additional ticket required)
• Nocturnal Tour operates weeknights at 7:30pm (April to October) and 8:00pm (November to March), advanced ticket purchase required
